Our story

Our name flows from our roots and our joined family heritages.
Brooks means 'the flowing stream' and McGill means 'the traveller or seeker.' To us, Streaming Spruce represents the beautiful journey of nature and time. We track down well travelled, often forgotten, pieces of furniture and give them a fresh, spruced-up second life - ensuring their stories keep moving forward.
In the wild, spruce trees, the most common tree in Ireland, thrive along the banks of fresh, flowing streams and the water nourishes the roots of the tree. Historically, these streams were the original highways that carried timber down to artisan workshops. Like the travellers in our heritage, the furniture we hunt has already undertaken long, wandering journeys through time, often migrating from home to home. It arrives at our workshop tired, worn, and seemingly at its final destination. This is where our craft begins!
In the Brooks heraldry, the family motto is Finem Respice ("Consider the End.") When we look at a broken, forgotten piece of furniture, we do exactly that: we consider its apparent end, but we refuse to let its story stop there. Looking to the McGill family motto, sine fine ("without end"), and the crest of the phoenix, we step in to spruce up these forgotten pieces and see them rise again, looking at them as treasures waiting to be restored rather than abandoned. We strip away decades of wear, allowing these forgotten treasures to be restored and reborn
